LXQt 2.1 has been released with experimental and optional Wayland support

The lightweight Qt desktop environment, LXQt, has released version 2.1, introducing significant updates, particularly with Wayland support. The new lxqt-wayland-session component allows users to access Wayland sessions, now supporting seven different Wayland compositors: Labwc, KWin, Wayfire, Hyprland, Sway, River, and Niri. These sessions can be managed through the newly added Wayland Settings in the LXQt Session Settings. While Wayland support is optional and experimental, X11 sessions will continue to be supported indefinitely.

Version 2.1 also brings enhancements to LibFM-Qt and PCManFM-Qt, particularly in Wayland environments. The LXQt Panel has been upgraded to function fully on Wayland, with two new back-ends for kwin_wayland and wlroots-compatible compositors. The Configuration Center app has been adapted for Wayland compatibility, and QTerminal has received updates for better settings management and drop-down shortcut hints under Wayland. Additionally, an experimental section in LXQt Session Settings allows for selecting a Wayland compositor and screen locker, alongside a GUI element for custom screenlocker on X11.
