LXQt 2.4 released with better Wayland support, new power management settings, and more
LXQt 2.4 has been released as the latest version of this lightweight, open-source desktop environment for Linux, focusing on bug fixes, code cleanup, and user-facing improvements. The required Qt versions remain unchanged, ensuring that LXQt 2.4 remains compatible with Debian “Trixie” and similar distributions, which streamlines the upgrade process for many users.
In this release, the file manager now highlights the base file name in the save dialog, making it easier to rename files immediately. On Wayland, multi-monitor users benefit from being able to set the “Hide desktop items” preference independently for each monitor, bringing better management to multiscreen setups. Power management settings have also progressed with separate monitor blanking timeouts for AC and battery usage, along with a cleaner interface and removal of outdated options.
Following these enhancements, the panel's volume plugin now adopts a horizontal layout and displays all available audio sinks. Users can adjust the default sink’s volume directly via mouse wheel or touchpad scroll on the panel icon. Session management has been streamlined by splitting settings for X11 and Wayland sessions, and on Wayland, the main menu is now accessible through a shortcut.
Additional updates include improved notifications, terminal enhancements, and a more responsive LXQt Runner calculator which now launches when a number is typed first.
