FreeCAD 1.0 launches with enhanced UI/UX, built-in Assembly Workbench, and TNP fixes
FreeCAD has officially launched version 1.0, marking a significant milestone for the free and open source 3D parametric modeler. This release introduces numerous enhancements to the user interface, including a rotation center indicator and selection filters for easier vertex, edge, and face selection. The task panel is now a standalone widget, offering greater flexibility by allowing it to be docked on top of the Combo view. The Transform tool dragger's appearance has been refined, and it now includes planar draggers for object movement along default planes.
Additionally, Realthunder's feature for overlaying dock widgets has been incorporated, and users can now set the light source position in preferences. The preferences window has been revamped with a tree view, and a TabBar workbench selector has been introduced, configurable in the preferences. A new universal measurement tool replaces the old Part Measure tools, and the Align to selection tool enables views normal to faces or following edge directions.
A notable advancement in version 1.0 is the addressing of the Topological Naming Problem (TNP), thanks to the collaborative efforts of multiple developers. Realthunder's algorithm has been implemented and refined, although further improvements are anticipated in future releases. Additionally, FreeCAD now includes a built-in Assembly Workbench, expanding its functionality for users.
