Files launches version 3.8 with enhanced tag management, alternate data streams, and more
Files version 3.8 introduces several new features, including support for alternate data streams which allows users to add metadata to files without altering their primary content. This feature can be accessed through the context menu, Command Palette, or a keyboard shortcut, though it is disabled by default.
Additionally, users can now manage tags from the sidebar by right-clicking the tags section. The update also offers multiple ways to access Storage Sense, including through the Command Palette, a custom shortcut, or by right-clicking a drive.
New shortcut actions have been added, such as copying the path to the current folder, pasting items as shortcuts, and closing all tabs with Ctrl + Shift + W. Archive settings now persist across sessions, and the privacy policy link has been updated. The drives widget has improved responsiveness, and several bugs have been fixed, including a WSL prompt issue on startup, a drag-and-drop bug, a bulk rename sorting issue, and a context menu placement problem on the home page.
