Bluesky hits 15M users, reaching #1 in the iOS app store post-US election
Bluesky has reached a significant milestone with 15 million active users, experiencing a substantial increase in sign-ups following the recent US presidential election. The platform saw a rapid growth surge, adding around 1 million new users within a week, according to reports from company employees.
A large portion of this growth is attributed to users primarily from the United States seeking an alternative to X, mainly due to Elon Musk and his political bias on the platform. The app has also climbed to the top position in the iOS App Store, surpassing popular apps like Threads or ChatGPT.
Bluesky is emerging as a top alternative to X, thanks to its decentralized AT Protocol, focus on user autonomy and transparency, with similar features like video posting, pinned posts, and custom fonts. It also offers tools to combat online toxicity, such as letting users detach their posts when quoted or notifications filters, giving them more control.

Bluesky seems like a bad choice when we have the fediverse now. They are so dissimilar from a technical, practical, and ideological point of view, despite Bluesky trying hard to suggest otherwise. Here is a great write-up on why we shouldn't be so eager to jump into Bluesky: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2024/11/15/Not-Bluesky
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Differing opinions! Run awaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
If that will make Dork Maga cry again like he did when the advertisers left, even more reason to run away.
Enjoy your echo chamber, sweetheart.
Seems to me, the only ones crying now are all the libtards with chronic TDS.
Their growth, even if much lower than Thread, is steady. Good for them! They're offering some neat tools to filter bad apples on the network, rather than pushing as much as inappropriate content that you can take every minute in this mayhem of service that they're trying to replace... So yes, it's blue, it's light, it's quiet. It's the legacy of this bird network we used to like.
