uBlock Origin Lite maker ends Firefox support due to “hostile” dispute with Mozilla
Raymond Hill, creator of the popular ad blocker uBlock Origin, recently received two emails from Mozilla regarding his Firefox add-on uBlock Origin Lite. This version is designed to be compatible with Manifest V3, a specification that will replace Manifest V2 in Chromium-based browsers. The emails from Mozilla highlighted several violations, including the lack of user consent for data collection, the presence of minified or machine-generated code, and the absence of a privacy policy.
In response, Hill refuted these claims, asserting that uBlock Origin Lite does not collect any data, contains no minified code in the cited files, and includes a privacy policy link on its add-on page. Despite his rebuttal, Mozilla has disabled the extension on the Firefox Add-ons Store. Frustrated by what he describes as a “nonsensical and hostile” decision, Hill announced he will discontinue the Firefox version of uBlock Origin Lite due to the “added burden of dealing with AMO nonsensical and hostile review process”.
It's important to note that these issues pertain solely to uBlock Origin Lite and do not affect the main uBlock Origin extension.

Sad story, this is how things go when the procedure is nonsense. Some jobs just don't need to exist.
Gorhill has protected more users in the world than any army. Fuck mozilla.
Issues like this are why I have moved to system-wide adblocking and privacy alternatives. It's too risky to rely on Extension stores and their arbitrary policies and enforcements. Better to use and even invest in software at the system/OS level that not only protects outside the browser but also is less fragile since other or multiple choices can exist. DNS apps, host file apps, network traffic filtering apps, etc. Of course there is always a place for the browser extensions in complement so we're sort of stuck there.
It's sad to see Mozilla not make any special allowances for Hill. He has proven his trustworthiness. They should have at least waited to discuss the issues with him.
system/OS level blocking sounds interesting! What are your recommendations for how to get that set up?
Hopefully they aren't that stupid. My backup is Brave. It's built in blocker works very well.
Well you are, if brave is in your toolbelt, and you're on the ready to switch to it because an irrelevant addon got delisted https://rentry.co/brave-trash
Most of that stuff like the BAT and crypto nonsense is pretty trivial and can be disabled. There are other tests showing Brave is one of the most private browsers straight out of the box. So, who is correct? Short answer: ALL browsers suck!
This is why you never give the colored hair people ANY power.
Right, instead give it to orange faced, snake oil peddling, dictator-wannabe felons 👍
Found the person with TDS. (Trump Derangement Syndrome)
a) A lot of people get spray tan + CNN puts on an extra orange filter b) I'm going to assume you don't know what snake oil means. c) If Trump was a dictator he'd still be in power. Also, the Democrat party ignored all primary votes and CHOSE your candidate for you. d) He's as much a true "felon" as I am a 6'8" Thai hooker.
Your such a clown

"Starting with uBOLite_2024.9.12.1004, the Firefox version of the extension will be self-hosted and can be installed from the release section. The extension will auto update when a newer version is available." https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBOL-home/issues/197#issuecomment-2358842852
Well, it seems only Firefox releases will be "not up-to-date", you can still build one from the source: "From this point on, there will no longer be a package published in the release section for Firefox, except for the latest one, uBOLite_2024.9.22.986, if and when it's approved. For those who still want to build and test a Firefox version of the extension, see https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/tree/master/platform/mv3."
I wonder why this happened for the Lite version only.
