Perplexity AI to launch native Mac app with advanced search on October 15

Perplexity has announced the release of its native macOS app, scheduled to launch on October 15. Known for its AI-powered conversational and search capabilities, Perplexity uses its own large language models (LLMs) to provide precise answers and efficiently summarize web content.

The Mac app will include features such as Pro Search with voice and text input, Thread Follow-Up for ongoing conversations, source tracking, and history search. The app will be accessed via a floating launcher bar, similar to those seen in other apps like Alfred or Raycast, allowing the user to perform searches directly from the desktop.

Unlike the also recently launched ChatGPT for macOS, Perplexity's app will be available for download directly from the Mac App Store, where users can pre-save the app and enable notifications for its release date. The app is free to download, with an optional subscription plan called Perplexity Pro for enhanced features. Perplexity also has an iOS version available on the App Store.

It’s been delayed apparently. It has a listing on the Mac App Store but says "Pre-Order. Expected Oct 24, 2024”
