Firefox 132 brings 4K streaming, certificate compression, and enhanced tracking protection

Mozilla Firefox has released version 132 of its web browser, introducing several new features and enhancements. Among the key updates is the rollout of Microsoft PlayReady encrypted media playback to select sites on Windows, allowing for 1080p and 4K Ultra HD streaming with reduced battery consumption and improved performance.

The update also introduces Wide Color Gamut WebGL for Windows and macOS users, supporting a wider range of vivid colors in 8-bit P3 profiles for enhanced visual experiences in videos, games, and images. Additionally, WebRender now supports hardware-accelerated rendering for most SVG filter primitives, such as feBlend and feGaussianBlur, improving performance for graphics-heavy content.

For macOS users, Firefox 132 adds support for the new screen and window sharing selection features on macOS 15 and enhances the session resume feature to automatically relaunch the browser after a system restart. Enhanced Tracking Protection's Strict mode now blocks third-party cookie access, and HTTP-favicons are blocked unless served over HTTPS.

The update also sees the removal of support for HTTP/2 Push due to compatibility issues, while restoring console logging in service workers and debugging remote devices via USB. Security enhancements include support for a post-quantum key exchange mechanism for TLS 1.3 and Certificate Compression, which optimizes the size and speed of TLS handshakes.
