X/Twitter will soon add Peer-to-Peer payments and removes support for NFT profile pictures

X has unveiled its plans for the upcoming year, with their roadmap incorporating the introduction of AI-powered experiences (like Grok) and an anticipated peer-to-peer payment system, which would play a fundamental role in the company's goal of becoming an all-in-one application by adding several creator tools and exploring new commercial opportunities, potentially integrating with other X offerings like creator revenue sharing and online shopping.

The company's blog post emphasizes the launch of peer-to-peer payments this year, and pledges ongoing investment in creators, content partnerships, original content, comprehensive ads, and brand safety. There's still a lot of details to be revealed, but theoretically, X users will be able to transact money on the platform and transfer funds to their verified bank accounts later this year. Musk has also hinted at the possibility of providing high-yield money market accounts to encourage users to keep more of their funds within the X platform.

In other short-term news, X has apparently decided to withdraw support for NFT profile pictures, a feature launched two years ago that allowed users to change their profile pictures into hexagons by linking to an owned NFT. TechCrunch reported the discontinuation after noticing that all references to NFT profile pictures had been removed from X's Premium support page. Although the NFT support service was active earlier on Wednesday, it ceased working later in the day, practically confirming its phased-out status and adding one more nail to the NFT coffin.
