X brings back headlines in link previews, but you might not even notice

Twitter has brought back headlines on link previews, a feature that was removed several months ago. The change is currently visible on X's web client, where link previews now feature the headline of the linked article or webpage in a condensed format.

The headline is displayed as white text on a pretty small black box, positioned in the bottom left corner of the image preview. This replaces the previously displayed linked website name, which has been moved to a different location. The platform initially removed headlines a few months ago, influenced by Elon Musk's advocacy for publishers to post directly on the platform. However, a context-less post from Musk in November highlighted the limitations of this approach, leading to the decision to reinstate headlines.

Currently, the change is only available on the web client, but it is anticipated to be extended to Twitter's iOS app shortly. Interestingly, during the period when headlines were removed from other platforms, Twitter's Android app continued to display headlines in their original format.
