Runway updates Gen-2 model with Multi Motion Brush for enhanced AI video editing
The AI Video Generation platform Runway has launched an update to its Gen-2 foundation model, introducing a new Multi Motion Brush feature. This tool enhances AI video edition, allowing creators to apply different types and directions of motion to specific parts of their videos simply by selecting and painting different areas of the image.
Users start by uploading a still image, which they then "paint" using a digital brush controlled by the computer cursor. Runway’s web interface provides slider controls to determine the direction and intensity of motion for each painted section independently. These include horizontal, vertical, and proximity controls, offering precise control over the motion.
The Multi Motion Brush is the evolution of the Motion Brush tool, a similar feature introduced by Runway in November 2023 that also allows animating a part of the image but only supported one type of motion. The tool is now available to all Gen-2 model users, along with 30+ tools for video producers, strengthening Runway's position against other similar alternatives such as Pika Labs, Kaiber, or Stable Video Diffusion.
