Meta to allow EU users unlink FB, Instagram, Messenger, Gaming, and Marketplace accounts

Meta has announced plans to permit users in the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland to disconnect their Instagram and Facebook accounts, as well as other Meta services. This is in response to the forthcoming implementation of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in March.

The option to unlink accounts extends beyond Instagram and Facebook, including Marketplace and Facebook Gaming accounts. Messenger will also be offered as a stand-alone service for EU users, removing the need for a Facebook account.

However, Meta warns that unlinking accounts may affect features like targeted ads, personalized content recommendations. Marketplace users who unlink their Facebook info will need to use email for communication with buyers and sellers, and Facebook Gaming users will be limited to single-player games.
