Meta implements automatic content restrictions for teenage users on Instagram and Facebook

Meta is introducing automatic content restrictions for its teenage users for Instagram and Facebook accounts. The changes will affect a range of platform features such as Content Feeds, Explore sections, Posts, and Stories. This is part of Meta's effort to make its platforms more age-appropriate and to ensure responsible content exposure for teenagers.

A significant part of these changes includes hiding content related to self-harm from teenage users. Instagram will also limit search terms like "suicide," "self-harm," and "eating disorders" for this demographic. Instead of displaying search results, teenagers will be redirected to help resources. Any age-inappropriate content shared by people they follow will be removed from their Feeds and Stories.

These content restriction settings will apply to both new and existing teenage users of Instagram and Facebook. The changes are being gradually introduced to all users under 18, with full implementation anticipated in the upcoming months.
