Budgie 10.9 launches with improved Bluetooth applet and initial Wayland support
Budgie, the open-source desktop environment used by Solus and other Linux distributions, has launched version 10.9. This new release introduces a redesigned Bluetooth applet, preliminary porting efforts to support Wayland, and the adoption of budgie-session for session management.
The updated Bluetooth applet in Budgie 10.9 allows direct connection and disconnection for paired Bluetooth devices. It also includes battery life indicators and the ability to send files to Bluetooth devices, enhancing user accessibility and functionality.
In an effort to support Wayland, Budgie 10.9 has initiated the porting of various applets and components of the Budgie Desktop to a Wayland-compatible library, named libxfce4windowing. This marks the initial steps towards achieving Wayland compatibility for the desktop environment.
Additionally, Budgie 10.9 has incorporated budgie-session into its framework. Budgie-session is a soft fork of gnome-session, specifically designed to provide a stable session manager for Budgie 10.x. This adoption aims to further enhance the stability and efficiency of the Budgie desktop environment.
