X Introduces government-issued ID verification for paid accounts

Social media platform X, has introduced ID verification for its paid accounts to prevent impersonations and maintain platform integrity, for which the company will ask for government-issued IDs as part of enhanced security measures.

The feature is the result of a partnership with Israeli verification company AU10TIX, which will hold verification data, including user IDs and biometric information, for up to 30 days. Premium subscribers will benefit from the ID verification through an "ID verified" tag and prioritized support, in addition to a simplified process for obtaining blue checkmarks and increased account flexibility.

Users may need to reverify their accounts following changes like name alterations, purpose shifts, ownership transfers, or for security reasons. X aims to use ID verification for specific features to increase platform trust, promising undisclosed "additional benefits". While the ID verification feature is currently available in several countries, it hasn't been launched in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the UK due to strict data protection laws. X plans to roll out the verification in these regions soon.
