Twitter to Discontinue Circle feature from October 2023
X will discontinue its Circle feature from October 31, 2023, according to a recent announcement made by the company on its website. The Circle feature, launched in August 2022, was designed to let users share posts with a select group, similar to Instagram "Close Friends" feature.
From the end of October 2023, users will no longer be able to create new posts for people on their Circle, or to add new people to it, but the option to remove individuals by unfollowing them will still be available. The feature originally permitted users to include up to 150 individuals in their Circle, but only one Circle could be created.
The decision to phase out the Circle feature follows user-reported issues earlier this year, including mislabeled posts and security concerns. In April, some Circle posts unexpectedly appeared on other users' algorithmic timelines. X acknowledged a "security incident" in May, suggesting that users outside a Circle may have accessed its posts. Despite the discontinuation, X confirmed that users will still have access to their past Circle posts.
