Notion Formulas 2.0: Enhanced formula feature for simplified writing and diverse outputs

Notion has launched Formulas 2.0, an upgrade to its formula feature, designed to simplify formula writing, diversify formula outputs, and cater to specific user needs. Despite the new formula language, existing formula outputs will remain the same, eliminating the need for users to manually update their formulas. However, the visual representation of formulas may change due to the updated language.

The updated formula editor now supports multi-line editing with tabs and comments, making it easier for users to manage complex formulas. It also automatically highlights errors, simplifying the process of spotting and fixing syntax errors.

Formulas 2.0 supports rich data outputs including pages, dates, people, and lists, in addition to the existing text, numeric, and checkbox outputs. The improved formulas can access properties of related databases, allowing for retrieval of information such as member emails and names. To facilitate these enhancements, Notion has introduced a new, more extensible formula language. Users may need to update their formulas to take advantage of the rich data type outputs, as the new formulas are compatible with the old ones but convert certain data types into text.

If you want to learn in detail about all the changes that come with Formulas 2.0, you should visit the official Notion guide, and we also recommend watching Matthias Frank's video in the list of sources below if you want to check an excellent introduction to the new features.
