Google Chrome 117 rolls out with major UI overhaul and enhanced privacy features
Google has launched Google Chrome 117, the most recent update of its widely-used browser. The latest version introduces a major interface revamp for desktop users to mark the 15th anniversary of Chrome. The redesign embraces Material You design elements, changing the default Chrome theme's top bar from gray to blue and revamping the three-dot menu for better user experience.
The new features, previously accessible via a specific flag, are now being rolled out to all users. In addition to the UI changes, Chrome 117 presents a restructured Chrome Web Store that aligns with Google's updated interface guidelines. The design resembles the web version of the Google Play Store, with rounded buttons and a centered interface with top tabs.
Chrome 117 extends the Privacy Sandbox feature, aiming to replace third-party cookies for enhanced user privacy. It provides users with more control over the ads they see and the ability to manage specific topics. The HTTPS lock icon has been replaced with a settings symbol to emphasize connection security. Users can manage site-specific settings for cookies and permissions through this icon. Additional features include expanded tab group functionality and a toggle to temporarily unblock third-party cookies for certain websites. Google Chrome 117 is now available for download from the official Google Chrome website, but we recommend you to check the full list of changes here!
