Canonical launches Real-Time Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS on AWS Marketplace

Canonical has announced that Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS with a real-time kernel, designed to handle low-latency requirements, is now available on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. The real-time version of Ubuntu was initially released in February, and its optimization for Intel Core processors was also unveiled just a few months ago. With the launch on AWS Marketplace, it becomes the only cloud platform to offer real-time Ubuntu, enabling businesses to utilize real-time computing for code validation in a cloud environment.

In terms of security, Canonical delivers critical kernel CVE patches for the real-time kernel, applied automatically during runtime through daily image updates, ensuring robust security. The incorporation of PREEMPT_RT patches, a project overseen by the Linux Foundation, enhances real-time Ubuntu's capabilities, adding features like priority scheduling. The principle of preemption, which permits a higher-priority event to interrupt the ongoing execution thread, makes this Ubuntu version suitable for demanding workloads in cloud environments.

Real-time Ubuntu on AWS Marketplace ensures a consistent experience across various platforms, including edge computing, multi-cloud environments, and CI/CD pipelines. This version of Ubuntu is also seen as a significant advancement for software-defined vehicles, enabling quick development and deployment strategies for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. The current pricing for Ubuntu Pro 22.04 LTS with a real-time kernel on AWS Marketplace is $0.072 per hour. Remember to visit the official announcement on Canonical's website to learn how it works, especially if your requirements demand the processing power of a real-time kernel.
