WhatsApp rolls out Screen-Sharing feature for video calls on Android, iOS, and Windows
Some time ago, we had reported that WhatsApp was testing a screen-sharing function during video calls, aiming at small businesses and startups. Now, the company has revealed that this feature is accessible on Android, iOS, and Windows. Furthermore, WhatsApp has introduced landscape video calling to enhance the user experience.
Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, unveiled the new screen-sharing capability on Facebook, highlighting its use in landscape mode during video calls. Initially tested with Android beta users, the feature is now available to windows users as well, with mobile users being able to initiate screen sharing by clicking the screen share icon during a video call, while desktop users can choose specific apps or monitors to share.
With this feature, we can see WhatsApp positioning itself as a simpler yet more accessible alternative to services like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime or even heavy screen sharing tools like TeamViewer (perfect for explaining to your relatives how to fix an issue with their phone/pc). Previously, WhatsApp launched the Channels feature to facilitate broadcast-based business communication and also rolled out its instant short video messages.
