Twitter Blue users can now hide verified checkmark
X Blue subscribers can now use the "hide your blue checkmark" feature on both web and mobile platforms, enabling them to conceal their subscription status, potentially avoiding online mockery, which has been a constant trend since the program's launch. To conceal the blue checkmark, subscribers can switch the "show or hide your blue tick on your profile" option in the Twitter app settings. When hidden, the blue checkmark will not be visible on the subscriber's profile or posts. However, some features might still disclose a user's active subscription status even when the checkmark is hidden, such as longer-than-usual posts for standard accounts. Also, some features may be unavailable to the user while the checkmark is hidden.
Initially, Twitter employed the blue checkmark for account verification, but the purpose changed when Elon Musk allowed Blue subscribers to become "verified," causing confusion due to an influx of fake accounts. Twitter subsequently removed blue checkmarks from accounts verified through the old system, leading to several alterations in the display of verified checkmarks. Twitter Blue subscribers now have the option to showcase or hide the blue checkmark on their profiles, along with a "verified since" date and their active subscriptions.
Elon Musk is in the process of rebranding the platform to X, envisioning it as an "everything app" that might incorporate a payment system in the future. The iconic blue bird logo has disappeared, replaced by an "X" logo displayed on Twitter's San Francisco office building, signaling the ongoing transition. Despite the rebranding, the X Blue subscription page still refers to Twitter Blue, reflecting the enduring identity of the service (well, at least for now).
