Threads finally rolls out Web-Based Desktop experience
Instagram's Threads has started introducing a web-based desktop experience for a select group of users, accessible via threads.net, enabling users to post, view their feed, and interact with posts from their desktops. However, the web version doesn't currently offer the full functionality of the mobile app, with features such as profile editing and sending threads to Instagram DMs unavailable.
Threads plans to rectify this by gradually introducing more features to the web app in the coming weeks, aligning it more closely with the mobile version. This follows the introduction of a reverse chronological Following feed in July, which was one of the most requested features by users, and the announcement of a new "Reposts" tab, separated from original posts. However, the absence of fundamental features, such as post search capabilities on both versions, keeps Threads trailing behind competitors like X, which is why the platform is actively working to rapidly introduce most of these missing features.
Threads is also planning to integrate with decentralized social media platforms like Mastodon, appealing to users who are considering leaving platforms like Twitter/X. The success of Threads could potentially be influenced by changes and issues on these platforms, such as Elon Musk's decision to end the "block" feature on X. However, despite Threads' significant initial success, with over 150 million app downloads since its launch on July 5, the platform's success will depend not only on app downloads but also on the frequency of usage, and according to recent reports, they have experienced a significant decline in engagement after its launch, so there is still a long way to go to become the true market leader.

But when will it arrive in Europe? Seems like it can't really be used in any serious manner before that.
