Spotify's AI-Driven 'DJ' feature expands globally, still in beta phase
Spotify AI-driven "DJ" feature is extending its reach globally, following its North American debut six months ago. The feature, accessible via the "music" feed in the Spotify mobile app, offers a personalized music experience. It curates a selection of tracks based on user preferences, accompanied by spoken-word commentary generated by a synthetic voice. This commentary includes light-hearted exchanges and contextual details related to the user's favorite songs and artists, mimicking a radio DJ's role.
The DJ feature was initially introduced in the U.S. and Canada in February, and was expanded to the U.K. and Ireland three months later. Despite its geographical expansion, the feature remains in its beta phase. Spotify Premium subscribers in roughly 50 markets, including Sweden, Australia, New Zealand, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, and South Africa, can now access the DJ feature. However, most European Union countries are still not included in this expansion (full list here).
It's noteworthy that the DJ feature, even in the new markets, will remain exclusively available in English. In a curious note, Apple Music has recently added 'Discovery Station', a quite popular feature on Spotify.
