Sony begins beta testing for PS5 Cloud Streaming service, offers 4K option to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers

Sony Interactive Entertainment has begun beta testing for cloud streaming of PS5 games, enabling players to stream games from the cloud directly to their PS5 consoles. The beta phase is currently available to a select group of PSN users and supports streaming at various resolutions from 720p, 1080, 1440p, and up to 2160p (4K).

Upon full launch, the cloud streaming service will be part of the Playstation Plus Premium subscription. It will cover PS5 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue, Game Trials, and digitally owned PS5 titles, allowing players to play their favorite games without downloading them. Unlike Xbox Cloud Gaming, Sony's service will offer a 4K streaming option, reflecting the company's aggressive plans for cloud gaming. According to some users with access to the service, available games for now includes God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Fortnite Battle Royale, Fall Guys, Destiny 2, Returnal, Demon’s Souls, Death Stranding, Sackboy A Big Adventure and Destruction All Stars

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recognized the technical difficulties associated with cloud-based gaming but reaffirmed the company's commitment to tackling these issues. The upcoming cloud streaming feature aims to extend beyond PS3, PS4, and classic titles to include PS5 games as more are released. This service will make it easier for PlayStation Premium members to access their games via cloud streaming on their PS5 consoles.
