Namecheap announces price increase for .COM and .XYZ domains starting in September
Domain registrar Namecheap has announced an imminent increase in the pricing of .COM and .XYZ domain names effective from September 1, as detailed in a recent blog post. The company stated, “At Namecheap, we’ve consistently stood up for our users by challenging arbitrary domain price increases. As we approach another price increase for .COM and .XYZ domains this September, we wanted to ensure our customers are informed so you can continue to get the best value for your investments.”
The price increase is not exclusive to Namecheap, it will be implemented across all registrars. Specifically, .COM domain renewals will witness an approximate 9% increase. The new pricing for .COM renewals will be $15.88, while .XYZ registrations/transfers and renewals will be $12.98 and $14.98 respectively.
Namecheap attributes this price revision to Verisign, the entity responsible for overseeing .COM domains. Verisign's pricing authority is based on their agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and the periodic price changes for .COM domains align with this arrangement.
Namecheap customers with existing .COM or .XYZ domains have the option to renew their domains before the end of August to maintain the current pricing, regardless of when the domains are due to expire.
