CrossOver 23 has been released with DirectX 12 support, 'uninstall' feature and EA App support on Linux

CodeWeavers has recently unveiled CrossOver 23, the latest iteration of their commercial Wine-based software. This software allows users to run several Microsoft applications on macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS devices without the need for a Windows emulator.

The latest release, CrossOver 23, has been upgraded to Wine 8.0.1 and brings a host of improvements across all platforms. One of the most notable updates is the support for DirectX 12 on macOS through MoltenVK and VKD3D. The DXVK for CrossOver 23 has also been improved. Alongside DirectX 12 support, geometry shaders and transform feedback support are now functional under macOS. This is particularly thrilling for macOS gamers.

However, users operating the macOS Sonoma beta are cautioned to avoid this version. While CrossOver 23 can technically run in Sonoma, there are known issues that may affect performance.

Another significant update is the ability to uninstall any Windows software installed via CrossOver. This process has been simplified, making it more user-friendly.

For Linux users, CodeWeavers has resolved the Xwayland bug, resulting in enhanced performance for applications, including those in the Microsoft 365 suite. The EA App is now running on both macOS and Linux with CrossOver 23, which means many EA App games are now working, including The Sims 4, Titanfall 2 and Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

Of course, this release also contains important bug fixes and improvements.
