Adapting to the EU's Digital Services Act, Meta includes a chronological feed for Stories and Reels in Europe
Meta is making adjustments to align with the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires platforms like Facebook to offer non-profiling-based alternatives. As part of this, Meta will display Stories and Reels on Facebook and Instagram in chronological order. Over 1,000 staff members have been assigned to develop solutions for these changes, aimed at boosting transparency and offering users more customization options.
To maintain regulatory compliance, Meta is establishing an independent compliance function. From this month, users can view unranked Reels, Stories, and Search results based on their search terms rather than personalized suggestions. Users also have the option to view Stories and Reels from people they follow in chronological order. Additionally, Meta intends to expand on AI content ranking details through 22 system cards to improve the "Why am I seeing this" feature.
Meta is also expanding its ad library to display and archive all ads targeted at the EU for one year, revealing more about targeting parameters. Additionally, Meta is launching two new research tools that utilize publicly available content from Pages, Posts, Groups, and Events.
