WhatsApp introduces QR code-based chat transfer between devices

WhatsApp has announced a new feature that allows users to transfer their chat histories between devices using QR codes. This local data transfer process is encrypted to ensure data security during the transfer. With this update, users no longer need to rely on cloud backups or download data from iCloud or Google Drive.

Although this new QR code-based transfer offers an alternative to the existing cloud-based method, it is important to note that this feature does not replace the cloud-based process, which will still be available to users. It is also worth mentioning that the transfer can only be done between devices running the same operating system. For example, users can transfer data from an Android device to another Android device or from an iPhone to another iPhone. Different instructions apply depending on whether you are moving data from an iPhone to an Android device or vice versa.

WhatsApp plans to roll out this feature globally in the coming days. To access it, users can go to Settings, Chats, and select "Chat transfer" on their old device.
