System76 announces update to COSMIC DE with improved auto-tiling and more
System76, the company behind the Linux distribution Pop!_OS, has announced an update to its COSMIC desktop environment in a recent blog post. COSMIC is a Linux desktop environment based on GNOME and designed for Pop!_OS.
The latest update to the COSMIC desktop environment includes improvements to auto-tiling, which has been made more accessible and intuitive based on user feedback. Users can now use a single shortcut to move and rearrange windows as they please.
According to the blog post, "The basic idea behind this tiling revamp is that if you want a certain layout, you can achieve it by simply moving your window in the intended direction. This makes layouts more flexible and different kinds more attainable, like arranging three windows in equal thirds of the screen."
In addition to the auto-tiling update, System76 has also improved window stacking and rebased the widget library for COSMIC DE, libcosmic, with a newer version.
The update to the COSMIC desktop environment demonstrates System76's dedication to listening to user feedback and improving its products accordingly. The company has established itself as a leader in the Linux community, and its commitment to innovation and user experience is sure to continue to attract users in the future.
