OpenAI has added a link-sharing feature in ChatGPT to improve collaboration and the exchange of ideas
OpenAI has recently introduced an exciting new feature in ChatGPT that allows users to create and share links to their chatbot conversations. Although the feature is being rolled out gradually, it may not be immediately available to all ChatGPT users, so if it still doesn't show up for you, it's most likely that it will in a short period of time. The sharing option provides users with the ability to share an entire ChatGPT conversation with others, even if the recipients don't have a ChatGPT account.
With this new feature, people without a ChatGPT account can view the conversation as a static webpage, displaying the complete back-and-forth exchange between the user and the AI. On the other hand, users with a ChatGPT account can continue the conversation by adopting it and asking their own follow-up questions. It's worth noting that this sharing feature is accessible for both free ChatGPT users and those with paid Plus accounts. Currently, the sharing feature is available exclusively on the ChatGPT website and is not yet integrated into the recently launched iOS app. However, OpenAI plans to add this functionality to the app in the future, expanding its availability and convenience for users.
To utilize the sharing feature, users simply need to click on the desired conversation entry in the sidebar and select the Share icon. A preview window will appear, displaying the chat, and users have the option to choose whether to share their name or remain anonymous by clicking the ellipsis icon. By clicking the "Copy Link" button, users can generate a shareable link that can be sent via email, text, or other methods. Recipients who have a ChatGPT account can view the entire conversation and even continue it as we mentioned before, fostering further engagement and collaboration.
OpenAI's new link sharing option offers a quicker and more user-friendly alternative to just sharing a screenshot or manually copied text without formatting as it has been done until now. It's important to note that the shared conversations can only be accessed by individuals with the link, and users retain control by being able to delete a link to prevent further access. However, it's essential to remember that deleting the link does not remove the conversation from a recipient's chat history. It is also worth considering that any new requests and responses made in a continued conversation will only appear for the user and not for others viewing the shared link, ensuring privacy and individualized experiences. To manage their shared links, users can access the Settings, select Data controls, and click the Manage button for Shared Links. Within the Manage section, users have the ability to view the source of each chat and delete shared links individually, providing greater control and organization.
This new feature, which at first appears simple, is undoubtedly very convenient and offers a better alternative to what Microsoft Bing does, which for now only offers the possibility of exporting a conversation as a PDF, as a Word document, or as a plain text document. As this feature continues to roll out and reach more users, it promises to enhance the overall ChatGPT experience and open up new avenues for communication and collaboration.
