Mozilla urges users to migrate Pocket accounts to Firefox accounts
For those who may not know, Mozilla is the owner of the popular Content-saving service and Bookmark Manager tool called Pocket, and in their latest announcement, the company has emphasized the urgency for users to migrate their Pocket accounts to Firefox accounts in order to enhance security and privacy. Starting in the coming weeks, users will receive prompts to migrate to a Firefox account, and the transition will become mandatory by August 15.
Let's remember that Pocket was acquired by Mozilla in 2017, and it began as a Firefox extension that has since become a standalone offline reading app. Recent updates to Pocket have introduced new features, such as the ability to create private lists and a better structured content organization, among other general improvements.
Existing Pocket users who sign in with their Google login or Apple ID will not be affected by the change for now. However, automatic migration for these users will begin on July 11, requiring them to log in with their new Firefox account using their existing Apple or Google credentials. Users without existing Firefox accounts will be prompted to create one by logging out of Pocket and entering their email on the login page. It is important to note that the migration process will not disrupt the saved items and subscriptions of premium users. Pocket will remain accessible on various web browsers, and the Pocket browser extensions will continue to function as usual. Mozilla has been encouraging Pocket users to switch to Firefox accounts since last year, and now they are more seriously enforcing the transition to prioritize the overall security of the service, starting with the signing-in process.
