Google enhances its Password Manager with biometric authentication and better browser integration

Google has recently unveiled a range of new features for its popular Google Password Manager app, aimed at bolstering both security and usability for its users. One of the key enhancements is the improved integration with Google Chrome, which now offers a dedicated user interface within the desktop version of the web browser. This integration allows for seamless access to password management functions while browsing the internet.

In a move to further strengthen security measures, Google Password Manager now supports biometric authentication on desktop devices through Windows Hello. Users can leverage facial or fingerprint recognition technology to authenticate themselves and access their passwords securely. This feature adds an extra layer of protection, particularly for PC users concerned about unauthorized access to their accounts, and it is especially good news if we consider the growing trend of various platforms of this kind adopting Passkeys for added security, as in the recent case of 1Password, Bitwarden, or even Google accounts/sign in.

The company has also introduced the ability to add password notes. This feature enables users to include additional information such as PINs or membership numbers alongside their saved passwords, so managing multiple accounts or keeping track of associated data becomes more convenient and organized. The app now allows users to import passwords from other password managers in CSV format using the desktop version of Chrome, aiming to simplifies the process of switching to Google Password Manager for those using other password management tools.

In addition to these updates, the Password Checkup feature, which evaluates the security of saved passwords, is now available not only on desktop and Android devices but also on iPhones. This expanded support ensures that users can benefit from the added security measures on multiple platforms.
