ByteDance launches Ripple: A music production app for creating AI instrumental songs

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has launched a music production app called Ripple. The app is in closed beta in the US, although it is expected to be launched globally soon. Like many other digital audio workstations, Ripple allows users to create and edit audio on the go, however, the interesting part comes with AI-based features, such as the ability for users to sing or hum a melody into the app, which will then use machine learning to turn it into an instrumental song. The app focuses on creating instrumental music and does not include lyrics. It also features a "virtual recording studio" where users can record, cut, trim, and edit audio files on their mobile devices.

And while there is no direct integration with TikTok right now, creators can use the app to create background audio for their short-form videos on the platform without having to worry about copyright claims. The app is still in what we could consider a closed beta, but interested users can visit Ripple.club to download the app for iOS and request an invitation code.

The field of Generative Music is still quite new, but if you're looking for similar alternatives, you may want to take a look at Bandlab, which already has over 60 million users.
