Vivaldi introduces Two-Factor Authentication and Reputation System to improve user security and experience
Vivaldi has recently announced the introduction of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and a reputation system for Vivaldi accounts and Webmail access. The 2FA system is a multi-factor authentication method that requires a user to provide two different authentication methods, such as a password and a security key, to access their account. Users can choose between app-based authentication and security key options to enable 2FA. To ensure account recovery, users are advised to set up more than one method of verification. In cases where only one method is available, users can generate recovery codes. To enable 2FA you just need to go to your account’s profile on Vivaldi.net and enable it, then you will be able to use it by an app-based authentication or using a security key.
In the other hand, the Vivaldi Community boasts over 1.3 million active accounts with new accounts being created daily, making it essential for the company to have a reputation system in place. with the new reputation system, Vivaldi can now keep a check on spam accounts. The reputation system identifies spammers and potential threats to the community, and those with a negative reputation score are unable to send messages, while those with a positive score enjoy a better user experience. Something to keep in mind is that the process of verifying your identity through a code sent to your phone will no longer be the method for accessing Vivaldi Webmail. Instead, the reputation system will be used, allowing access to Vivaldi Webmail only to those who actively participate in the community. This new system means that new users will not have immediate access to Vivaldi Webmail upon creating an account. To gain access, users must participate in various activities such as engaging in forum discussions, interacting with other users on Vivaldi Social, sharing browser themes, posting on their blog, or syncing their browser data to collect points. This of course won't apply to old accounts.
Vivaldi has taken a significant step towards improving user security and experience by introducing 2FA and a reputation system in order to keep the community spam-free. The updates will undoubtedly make the Webmail platform more reliable and scalable while providing users with a better overall experience.
