Reddit introduces rich previews for sharing content on other platforms
Reddit has recently unveiled an update to its iOS and Android app that allows users to share content on other platforms such as iMessage and Instagram with rich previews that enhance the experience of sharing Reddit content on those platforms. For instance, the rich previews on iMessage display a visual preview of the content, including the subreddit name, upvotes, and comments. The “Instagram Stories” feature generates a preview of a Reddit post for Instagram, which is similar to a feature already available on Twitter.
According to Reddit, the new features will make it easier and faster to share posts on other social media platforms without compromising users' Reddit identity. The previous sharing options were outdated and not really fast since it required multiple steps to complete the simple action. The update also introduces a new shortcut that enables users to share content without saving images to their device after taking a screenshot from the app.
Furthermore, Reddit has also introduced a new toolbox that enables publishers to easily display Reddit content on their own platforms. The toolbox includes easy-to-use self-serve tooling and features that highlight the predictable height of a post or comment, prominently showcase the content's community, and display the total upvotes and comments. Publishers can also add a call to action to join the conversation, and learn more about the new features by visiting the provided link. By doing this, Reddit aims to expand its reach, enhance the user experience, and provide more opportunities for users and publishers to share and link back to Reddit content while fulfilling its mission of helping people find community, belonging, and empowerment through engaging in topics that matter to them.
