Paramount+ surpasses 60 Million subscribers, credits Originals and Exclusives for rapid growth
Paramount+ is experiencing rapid growth, with over 60 million subscribers now using the streaming service, according to a recent report released by the company.
The platform added 4.1 million subscribers in the first quarter of 2023, and the media giant credits its success to a strong slate of originals and exclusives, including the final season of Star Trek: Picard, Tulsa King, and the Yellowstone spinoff 1923. Access to recent movies like Top Gun: Maverick and NFL playoffs also helped draw in customers. The service counts on Star Trek shows like Strange New Worlds and sports exclusives like the UEFA Champions League and the upcoming integration of SHOWTIME into Paramount+ , announced in January, will bring even more content.
Paramount's free-to-watch Pluto TV service also experienced growth, topping 80 million monthly active users thanks to a 35 percent year-to-year jump in viewing hours. The company's increasing reliance on streaming is reflected in its financial figures, with overall subscription revenue climbing 50 percent compared to a year earlier, and the money flowing from Paramount+ surging 65 percent.
It seems that Paramount+ is taking advantage of its rivals' misfortunes, with Netflix adding a modest 1.7 million new subscribers in its first quarter and fighting with users cracking down on password sharing.
