Microsoft enhances security measures in Outlook for Android and iOS including Microsoft Authenticator functionality
Microsoft has announced that it has updated Outlook for Android and iOS, adding new security features to the popular email app. The new version includes Authenticator functionality, a two-factor authentication tool that verifies sign-ins.
The update was first announced back in March 2023, and has now been rolled out to users of the Outlook app on both Android and iOS. According to Microsoft, the Authenticator functionality is 71% less likely to be compromised than SMS verification because SMS codes are transmitted in clear text. The new feature is designed to make it much harder for hackers to gain access to user accounts, by requiring an additional layer of security beyond just a password.
With the new Authenticator feature, users won't have to download the stand-alone Microsoft Authenticator app, as the functionality is built directly into the Outlook app. This makes it much easier for users to set up and use two-factor authentication, without having to worry about downloading and installing additional apps.
Overall, the new update to Outlook for Android and iOS is a welcome addition for users who are concerned about the security of their email accounts. With the new Authenticator feature, users can rest assured that their accounts are much more secure, and that their sensitive information is better protected from hackers and other online threats.
