KDE Gear 23.04.1: Updates and improvements for popular apps in the open-source software suite

KDE Gear 23.04.1 has been released, marking the first of three maintenance updates for the latest open-source software suite. The new release addresses a number of issues in popular KDE apps, such as Kdenlive, Spectacle, Dolphin File Manager, and Skanpage, among others. One of the most significant improvements is found in the Kdenlive video editor, which now fixes a problem that caused project files to become corrupted when opened, as well as various sequence issues.

Another noteworthy update is in the Spectacle screenshot utility, which has been improved to function as expected on multi-monitor setups with a scale factor below 100%. Additionally, it will no longer affect the window below it when closed with the Esc key. Meanwhile, the Dolphin file manager for the Plasma X11 session has been enhanced to prevent already-open instances of Dolphin in a different workspace or activity from becoming focused and switched when using the "Open containing folder" functionality in various KDE apps.

Other notable improvements in KDE Gear 23.04.1 include UI enhancements to the Skanpage scanning app, making the OCR language list view scrollable when needed, and the addition of force to rotate image buttons to rotate images in the expected direction. There are plenty more updates for apps such as KMail, Elisa, Merkuro Calendar, and much more, so we encourage you to visit the full list of changes in the link at the bottom of this article.

Users of the KDE Plasma desktop are encouraged to watch for the KDE Gear 23.04.1 packages to be available in their favorite GNU/Linux distribution's stable software repositories. They should update their installations as soon as possible to take advantage of the many fixes and enhancements in this release.
