Apple announces shutdown of My Photo Stream service
Apple recently announced that it will be shutting down its popular My Photo Stream service on July 26th, 2023. My Photo Stream, which has been available for free since the release of iCloud in 2011, allowed users to upload the last 30 days of their images and videos, up to a limit of 1,000, from their Apple devices to iCloud.
One of the key features of My Photo Stream was its ability to enable users to access their images and video clips on multiple devices. However, it's important to note that content uploaded through My Photo Stream was not saved at full resolution and did not count against the iCloud storage cap. This service has been widely used by Apple users to conveniently sync their photos across devices.
As the shutdown date approaches, Apple has announced that automatic photo uploads to My Photo Stream will cease on June 26th, 2023. Users are advised to save specific images to their device's Apple Photos Library before July 26th to ensure continued access. Apple recommends utilizing iCloud Apple Photos as the best alternative for keeping photos and videos up to date across devices while securely storing them in iCloud, but you can always review our list of alternatives in case you want to look for something more advanced or closer to your needs.
Although it wasn't the most used or popular service today, Apple's decision to shut down the My Photo Stream service marks the end of an era for many Apple users who have relied on it for seamless photo synchronization. It's pretty much a reminder of the ever-evolving nature of technology and the need to adapt to new services that offer enhanced features and capabilities.
