Spotify's Heardle game shutdown - A short-lived acquisition
Spotify recently announced that they will be shutting down Heardle, the music game they acquired in July 2022. The game will no longer be available from May 5th, 2023. Inspired by the popular game Wordle, Heardle was a unique game that tested players' music knowledge. Players had six attempts to guess the name of a song as they listened to progressively longer snippets of the track. Although Spotify never integrated the game into its app, it had millions of players when it was first acquired.

According to a statement by Spotify spokesperson Grey Munford, the decision to shut down Heardle was made after careful consideration. The company is now focusing their efforts on other features for music discovery. It is possible that the shutdown of Heardle is related to the fact that it was only available on a standalone website and never integrated into the Spotify app. It is also possible that fewer users are playing the game now that the hype surrounding Wordle has died down.
Users who want to keep their stats from Heardle can screenshot them until May 4th, 2023. While the game will no longer be available after this date, Spotify has not ruled out the possibility of incorporating some of Heardle's features into their app in the future. For now, however, the company is focused on improving other areas of their platform to better serve their users.
