Solus Linux distribution plans new direction based on Serpent OS
The independent Linux distribution Solus is undergoing a transformation under the new leadership of Joshua Strobl and Ikey Doherty. The two have come together to steer Solus into a new era of growth and innovation. The distribution will now be built off the Serpent OS project that Ikey has been working on independently for the past few years.
According to Joshua, who is the current Solus maintainer, “What we are proposing is that, alongside its day-to-day operations, we will begin exploring the option of re-basing our distribution onto a Serpent OS base with Serpent OS tooling and processes.” This means that Solus will be able to leverage the advancements made by Ikey in the Serpent OS project and offer a more robust and feature-rich distribution to its users.
Ikey, who is the original founder and lead of Solus, is excited about the direction the distribution is taking. The move to Serpent OS is expected to bring a number of benefits to Solus. The distribution will be able to offer better hardware support, improved performance, and a more streamlined user experience. Additionally, the move to Serpent OS will allow Solus to leverage the latest advancements in Linux technology and offer users a more up-to-date and secure distribution.
