Proton Drive rolls out encrypted photo backup feature on Android app, beta testing for iOS

Proton has announced the beginning of a phased rollout of its new photo backup feature on the Proton Drive Android app. The feature will be widely available in the coming days. This addition allows users to instantaneously and seamlessly sync photos from their Android devices to their encrypted cloud storage accounts.

The automatic photo backup feature on Proton Drive not only encrypts the contents of your files but also crucial metadata such as location and file names. After the syncing process, these files can be accessed across multiple platforms including iOS, Android, and web.

In addition to the existing feature that allows users to mark files as available offline, Proton Drive now extends this functionality to include photos and videos backed up to the service. This ensures that users can access their files even without a stable internet connection or in offline scenarios.

The photo backup feature is currently undergoing beta testing on the Proton Drive iOS app and is slated for a public release soon. Proton's future plans include the development of support for albums and automatic categorization based on photo types, such as screenshots. This is part of Proton's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and provide comprehensive and secure cloud storage solutions.
