Microsoft launches standalone Copilot app for Android with advanced AI features

Microsoft has discreetly introduced a standalone Copilot app for Android, which is now available on the Google Play Store. This independent app removes the requirement for the Microsoft Bing mobile app to use Copilot's AI-powered features. The Android version of Copilot, which has been operational for about a week, offers features such as chatbot capabilities, DALL-E 3 image generation, and text drafting for emails and documents, with the added benefit of not requiring sign-in for use.

One of the key features of the Android Copilot app is the free access it gives to OpenAI's latest GPT-4 model, a feature not offered complimentary with ChatGPT, and while there is currently no iOS version of Copilot, the trend and previous availability of Copilot features on iPhone and iPad via the Bing app (you can still access to the service from there) suggest an iOS version may be under development.

This introduction follows Microsoft's renaming of Bing Chat to Copilot just over a month ago. The Copilot app is now a more standalone experience, similar to ChatGPT and can be accessed via https://copilot.microsoft.com
