Lubuntu 24.04 LTS release to feature optional Wayland support and improved installer

The Lubuntu Team has recently declared that their forthcoming Long-Term Support (LTS) release, 24.04, also known as Noble Numbat, will feature optional Wayland support. However, the team does not anticipate making this the default until the release of Lubuntu 24.10.

Aiming for a complete transition to Wayland and Qt 6 by the 24.10 release, the team is banking on LXQt's ongoing upstream support for Wayland. The shift from Qt 5 to Qt 6 is engineered to be remarkably straightforward, simplifying the transition process.

Further enhancements in Lubuntu 24.04 include an upgraded Calamares installer, a GTK-based interface for Bluetooth device management, a configuration editor for the login screen, and the integration of Redshift for screen color temperature adjustment. The release will also offer several new optional themes, along with a host of other improvements and bug fixes.
