Google Contacts updates Android widgets with new design and resizing options

Android app has updated its Android widgets in version 4.18, providing a new design to the Individual Contact widget first launched in November 2022. The widget can now be resized and offers squircle and pill shapes, replacing the previous circular design. Changing the featured contact has been simplified, allowing users to hold the widget and tap the pencil icon to make the change.

Google Contacts initially offered 1x1 widgets, but a 3x2 Individual Contact widget, styled in Material You, was added in November 2022, and by February 2023, it was announced that this widget could be resized. The 2x2 widget transitioned from a circular design to a "squircle" look, and larger layouts adopted a pill shape. The company has also introduced a Favorites widget.
