about 1 month ago by IanDorfman

During its latest product announcement event today, Apple announced multiple new hardware products, including M1-powered MacBook Pro models and the newly redesigned AirPods and HomePod mini. Alongside this announcement came the official release date for the latest version of Apple's flagship macOS.

macOS Monterey will be available as a free update to compatible Mac models, and it will also ship alongside the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops that release next week. Compared to previous version updates, Monterey is relatively low-key, with no major design paradigm shifts. Instead, new features, including Universal Control and Small Siri Shortcuts iconSiri Shortcuts, are being implemented.

Universal Control will allow one keyboard and mouse/trackpad combo to control multiple Macs and iPads simultaneously, allowing for things like cross-device drag and drop and design work. In addition to these new features, Small FaceTime iconFaceTime will be receiving new options as well, including screen sharing and support for group media playback.

The following Mac computers will be compatible with this new release:

• Early 2015 and later MacBook Air
• Early 2015 and later MacBook Pro
• Early 2016 and later MacBook
• Late 2015 and later iMac
• Late 2014 and later Mac mini
• 2017 and later iMac Pro
• Late 2013 and later Mac Pro
