Live.ly is merging into Musical.ly

Musical.ly, a video sharing platform, has decided to axe its dedicated livestreaming app Live.ly, which originally launched in May of 2016.

As reported by Sarah Perez at TechCrunch, the live streaming functionality from Live.ly is being merged into Musical.ly, with the Live.ly app slated to be pulled from the Apple App Store and Google Play. When users attempt to use Live.ly to stream live, the app will present them with a notification to switch over to Musical.ly to do so instead.

The official website for Live.ly is for sale and currently recommends live streaming alternatives (specifically Small Periscope iconPeriscope, Small Stream iconStream, Small Streamago iconStreamago, and Small YouNow iconYouNow).

This merging of Live.ly's functionality into Musical.ly is the first major change made following Musical.ly's acquisition by Bytedance, a Chinese media company, back in November of 2017.
