WhatsApp now supports in-app Facebook and Instagram video playback

WhatsApp now supports playing videos posted on Facebook and Instagram without having to leave the messaging app.

This in-app video playback functionality is a major step by Facebook, who owns all three services, to enable users to use features of the three services in a more seamless and interchangeable manner. This has been seen over the past several months with testing out features such as the ability to post Instagram Stories directly to WhatsApp as well as Facebook/Instagram Stories crossposting.

An update with support for WhatsApp's new in-app video playback feature has rolled out to iOS users but not Android users as of the time of this post.
