Google has released a web-based open source image compression and comparison tool
Google's Chrome Labs development team has released a web-based image converter named Squoosh in order to showcase the evolution of new universal web technology that is supported by modern web browsers.
Supported image formats include JPG, PNG, and WebP, and it uses OptiPNG and MozJPEG for image optimization. Users can control the quality of both the image input and output, with Squoosh showing the difference in file size (either increase or decrease).
Squoosh is available online at https://squoosh.app/ and is compatible with modern web browsers on desktop and mobile operating systems. The data that the web app collects includes original and processed image sizes (rounded up to the nearest kilobyte) and what it refers to as "basic visit data" via Google Analytics.
