YouTube previewing new design with dark theme
Google has opened up a preview of its upcoming design for YouTube. It offers a more distraction-free view to videos that focuses on the all important content while applying Material Design concepts for a pleasing aesthetic that sits well with Google's other modernized apps.
Importantly, the new design includes a built-in Dark Theme. It's a welcomed, new look that's easier on the eyes in particular lighting conditions. Browser extensions like Stylish are famous for their dark themes for popular sites like YouTube but this new mode eliminates the need for it, at least as far as YouTube viewing. The new theme coincides with a framework migration to Polymer which should also help provide a speedier experience.
On a somewhat related note, alternative YouTube browser Echoes Player has received a significant update. The free and open source web app lets you experience YouTube content with enhanced features and no ads. While it doesn't yet provide a dark theme, it does let you conduct searches as videos play.
